About ATHOMES

The Association for Tennessee Home Oxygen & Medical Equipment Services (ATHOMES) is an active, member-driven trade association exclusively focused on serving the needs of all types of home medical equipment suppliers in Tennessee, the customers and family caregivers they serve, and homecare vendors who provide quality products and resources.

Originally founded in 2011, a volunteer group of suppliers joined together to create an association that focused on the issues of HME companies in Tennessee, addressing everything from the anti-"Competitive Bidding" program to audits to state sales tax to licensure and everything in-between. An Interim Board of Directors was created where the foundations of the organization were built, and ATHOMES elected its first Board of Directors at its first annual convention in August of 2012. Now entering into its second decade, ATHOMES has developed into a strong, vibrant leader within the HME Industry as it "walks the walk" of advocacy on behalf of its growing membership base.

ATHOMES has close working relationships with national trade and patient advocacy organizations, Medicare, TennCare and their contractors, and our state and federal legislators who affect the success and direction of the HME Industry. By participating in the State Leaders' Council, ATHOMES consistently communicates with other sister organizations throughout the country, keeping up on trending events and helping shape the direction of the American Association for Homecare's activities at a national scale. ATHOMES also works with local Offices on Aging and patient advocacy groups such as Ms. Wheelchair Tennessee to promote safe, independent living at home.

ATHOMES is highly involved in state and national legislative initiatives via grassroots lobbying on behalf of members. ATHOMES strong rapport with elected officials and the Health Legislative Aides proves invaluable as the Association tackles some of the most challenging issues to date. The Legislative Committee works diligently on behalf of members to do research, organize meetings, participate in national strategic planning sessions, meet with Members of Congress, and educate policy makers and shapers about the impact that specific legislation will have on suppliers and the homecare community at large. ATHOMES members attend the Washington Legislative Conference annually, host Roundtable Discussions in Tennessee, and meet with state and federal representatives in their districts. All ATHOMES members are encouraged to participate in the annual Day on the Hill in Nashville where suppliers come together to meet with state leadership.

The Regulatory Committee updates and engages membership on issues ranging from newly drafted policies to enforcement of long-established policy. A representative from the Regulatory Committee attends the quarterly Jurisdiction C Council meetings (with members of CGS and other Jurisdiction C suppliers) to give a voice to ATHOMES' concerns and to seek resolution. Members may submit questions to this committee to be taken to the Medicare DMAC (CGS) so that written clarification may be provided to the supplier community.
