"Clinically Speaking: A Practical Guide to Evaluation and Documentation for Mobility Assistive Equipment" by Julie Piriano, PT, ATP/SMS (Pride Mobility Products Corp.)
(.3 CEUs)  This course will examine the questions outlined in the National Coverage Determination for Mobility Assistive Equipment, provide the clinician with practical tools to incorporate the evaluation and documentation requirements, and assist the supplier in reading and interpreting the information provided for the equipment that is recommended.  At the conclusion of the course, the participant will be able to: 1) Consider at least 5 standard evaluation findings (balance, strength, range of motion, tone/reflexes, and sensation) to the clinical indication and functional limitations typical of chronic medical conditions and neurological diagnoses.  2) Evaluate for timely ambulation, execute a "Timed Up & Go" test proficiently, and/or relate the findings to the recommendation of a gait aid.  3) List the 3 axel adjustments on an ultra-lightweight manual wheelchair and relate them to the evaluation and documentation of safe, timely, and independent manual wheelchair operation.  4) Name 4 considerations involved in the selection of a power mobility device.

"2015 Complex Rehab Legislative Update" by Ted Metcalf (The MED Group)
Learn the latest on complex rehab initiatives happening on The Hill as Ted updates attendees on the latest federal efforts for the complex rehab carve-out legislation to make complex rehab a separate benefit, the wheelchair accessories affected by Competitive Bidding, and more.  Ted has extensive background working in rehab both on the supplier and manufacturing levels, and this session is not to be missed.  ATHOMES recently formed a CRT Committee that will be the boots on the ground for the activities Ted addresses as we push for CRT issues in Tennessee and across the nation.

"To Bill or Not to Bill: A Guide to Billing Wheelchair Accessories" by Jim Stephenson (Invacare Corp)
(CEUs offered)  This session will explore which options/accessories can be billed in addition to the manual and power wheelchair base at initial purchase.  Appropriate coding and justification for billable options/accessories will be presented.  4 learning objectives include: 1) Identify at least 3 separately billable wheelchair accessories for manual and power wheelchairs to maximize reimbursement.  2) Identify at least 2 appropriate medical justifications for the provision of separately billable wheelchair accessories.  3) Identify current and updated HCPCS coding changes.  4) Discuss coding for wheelchair options/accessories when provided as a replacement item.
